Navolau and Nakorotubu districts are two of the twenty districts in the Ra province. There are four villages in the Navolau district and five in Nakorotubu. Their main sources of livelihood are in the informal sector - fishing, farming root crops, craft production as well as formal employment in the sugar cane and hotel industries and public sector. Women in these villages are engaged in economic activities. For some of the women, they are the main income earners for their families. In Namuaimada village, women are engaged in sea grape harvesting and home-based canteens. Income derived by the women has been instrumental in the economic and social development witnessed in the village – most significant are increased household income and improved education, housing and sanitation.
