Abstract

Mr. Phouvong Phetphayvanh, an independent filmmaker from Lao PDR, talks about the impact of agricultural conversion and macro-economic development on small-scale fishers, and how the use of appropriate media can help raise awareness about the SSF guidelines. This is one of a series of video interviews highlighting the problems faced by small-scale fishers in the Mekong Region, and reflecting on the importance of the FAO’s ‘Voluntary Guidelines on Securing Sustainable Small-scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Alleviation’ (‘VGSSF’ or ‘SSF Guidelines’). The interviews were conducted during the workshop 'Securing Small-scale Fishery in the Mekong Region: VGSSF in Action', conducted between 30 April - 1 May 2016 at the Samphran Riverside Resort, Nakorn Pathom Province, Thailand. Produced by Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF) and Federation of Thai Fisher-folk Association (FFF). Supported by International Collective in Support of Fishworkers (ICSF).
