In November 1982, the Technical Group on Radioactivity in the South Pacific Region was created and assigned the task of reviewing radioactivity and its regional impact. The project was motivated largely by the concern expressed in the Region over existing and proposed activities that might release radioactive materials to the environment. Of particular concern are the nuclear explosions presently being conducted in Polynesia and proposals to include the Pacific Ocean in strategies for radioactive waste management. This Report is the outcome of the Technical Group's efforts.
