Abstract
Pará is one of Brazil’s main fi sh-producing States, where artisanal fi sheries occupy a very signifi cant economic, social and cultural position. Recently, a meeting organized in Belém, the capital of Pará, by a local organization, the Conselho Pastoral dos Pescadores (CPP), brought together 19 women of fishing communities from the Lower Amazon Region and from Marajó Island at the mouth of the Amazon.
