Abstract

Describes the process of creation of hard clam spawner sanctuaries in estuarine environments along the New Jersey shore, to increase recruitment in this region. This article analyses from an anthropological perspective, on this co-management experiment, which involved complex and revealing socio-cultural interactions among a variety of constituencies and individuals.
