A petition was filed in the Gujarat High Court that the laying of crude oil pipeline in the marine national park by the respondent petroleum industry, would cause damage to the forest as well as the marine life, thus having a disastrous effect on ecology and environment, was quashed by the High Court on the grounds that, a) both the Central and State Govts. have taken necessary precautions in seeing that neither the ecology nor environment would be damaged while implementing the project and b) that by this project there would be a savings of foreign exchange to the tune of U.S.$300 million and the said project would also generate employment opportunities to many in the State of Gujarat.
