Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to prevent IUU fish from reaching the marketplace, thus effectively removing the economic incenntive to pursue IUU activities. The approach to such management has been a) under the management of the RFMO through catch and trade documentation schemes and trade related measures; and b) traceability systems put into place in the seafood industry, such as the privately initiated chain-of-custody certification system of the MSC.
