Abstract
Fuel constitutes a significant component of fishing costs, hence, recent increases in fuel prices are expected to reduce overcapacity and overfishing in fisheries. However, government fuel subsidies tot he fishing sectorcompletely negate this this posotove aspect of increasing fuel costs.
