Aquaculture research in Bangladesh has demonstrated that it can bebefit families through the inclusion of women. Even in a society where tradition mandates that women remain in the home, they have showed that they could contribute in a land where the food supply and food security are under extreme threat. Women are making a substantial difference as more and more derelict ponds are revitalised and they take a leading role in making these ponds productive. These women fish farmers will have status in their communities they never had before.
