The aim of this project is to provide baseline information on the socio-economic characteristics and conditions of coastal communities in the BCLME region (Namibia) in order to enhance understanding of the livelihood strategies they employ and assess the role that coastal activities such as fishing, mariculture and tourism play in meeting food security and livelihood needs of these communities. The study also seeks to improve understanding of the perceptions of these fishers with respect to livelihood opportunities linked to coastal and marine resources as well as the problems facing coastal fishing communities in their efforts to secure food and a sustainable livelihood.
