The present study proposes to identify the modalities of a comprehensive pension and social security scheme for the elderly population in South Asia, from the experience of India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. More specifically, the major objectives of the study includes 1) Evaluate the ageing scenario- past, present and future, 2) Conduct a sample survey to assess the nature, magnitude and adequacy of various forms of social assistance now available to the elderly, 3) Review the existing policies and programs for the elderly, 4) Suggestions for a broad-based comprehensive pension, social security and assistance schemes for the elderly.
