Abstract

This paper describes past and present Dayak self-governance in the context of its relationship to Indonesian government; give examples of how Dayak cultural values and resource management have supported ecosystem resilience in the face of changes; give examples of how Dayak communities have built solidarity to resist concessions and other specific incursions; and offer advice on interventions that revitalize traditional social and ecological resilience.
