The principle objective of ecolabelling is to give consumers more information that is relevant for their product choice. It is likely that ecolabelling will be applied to those fisheries that are already fairly well managed. The financial and technical resources may be beyond the means of several developing countries and the international community may be caled upon to provide assistance including the WTO agreements and Agenda 21. Therefore, government, industry and consumers should promote international collaboration for the introduction and use of ecolabels in fisheries and aquaculture.
