The challenges of occupational safety and health in small-scale fisheries are complex and multifaceted, involving inherent industry dangers, inadequate training, regulatory gaps, and socio-economic pressures. Addressing these challenges requires concerted efforts from governments, international organizations, and local communities to ensure small-scale fishermen can work in safer, healthier conditions. Integrating safety into the broader management of fisheries and adopting a holistic approach that considers the social, economic, and cultural contexts of small-scale fisheries will be key to improving the well-being of those who depend on this vital sector.
