Abstract

Women hold a position that is considered to be among the most prominent in the fishing industry. Women's contributions to the fishing industry on a smaller scale are just as important and significant as those of men. It has been argued that countries should recognize the rights of women who live in fishing communities in order to ensure that they have access to coastal resources, notably coastal areas. The Indian government and state governments have dreamed up a number of initiatives aimed at empowering women in such communities. These programs have been established under the auspices of a variety of fishermen's welfare organizations and local self-government institutions. In this study, an attempt is made to investigate the numerous schemes and programs that the central and state governments have implemented for the welfare of the women in the fishing community. Additionally, the socio-economic status of fisherwomen in Gujarat and Kerala is investigated through systematic literature review. It reveals the unfavorable condition of fisherwomen particularly in Gujarat.
