Following the completion of the study, WorldFish, the Tanzania Women Fish Workers Association (TAWFA), which is the Tanzanian chapter of the African Women Fish Processors and Traders Network (AWFISHNET), and the Environmental Management and Economic Development Organization (EMEDO) partnered to disseminate and validate research findings and identify leverage points to transform gender norms and make women economically resilient to the impacts of climate change in the fisheries value chain. One of the key levers identified to build women’s economic resilience against the effects of climate change was to promote women’s access to finance by strengthening Village Savings Groups (VSGs). Doing so will promote women’s access to financial resources, including inexpensive loans, so they can invest in their fisheries-based businesses. Access to inexpensive loans is also important to promote resilience against climate shocks. This report presents the outcome of the activities in Muleba District to strengthen VSGs in the islands of Goziba and Magata Kalutanga in 2024. The project conducted training, coaching, and mentorship visits to 36 women fish processors and traders selected from two women’s groups currently implementing the Village Community Bank (VICOBA) financial program.
