Abstract

This NRGF Discussion Paper is calling for amendments to the Paris Climate Agreement at the UNFCCC COP 30 Brazil, including mandating the creation of independent climate justice mechanisms; embedding FPIC into national climate laws, programs and projects; and requirement for Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to not only focus on emissions reductions but be grounded in principles of equity, social inclusion, and robust legal safeguards. While the Paris Agreement acknowledges the human dimensions of climate action, its aspirational principles must evolve into systematic and measurable targets that safeguard both planet and people, fostering greater justice, equity, and legitimacy in our collective climate future.
