Abstract

This background paper provides additional information in relation to the information paper COFI:FM/II/2026/INF/7, and the working paper COFI:FM/II/2026/6. It includes information on: The identification of high seas species. The identification of species of high seas fisheries outside the competence of regional fisheries management organizations (RFMOs) or arrangements. The estimation of catches of high seas fisheries outside the competence of RFMOs or arrangements. The description of the methodological approach applied, including assumptions and caveats, to identify the categories of species, and to estimate their catches.
