Abstract

This information paper provides additional information in relation to working paper COFI:FM/II/2026/6. It includes information on: - Estimation of catches of high seas fisheries outside the competence of regional fisheries management organizations or arrangements, based on catches reported to FAO. - Current challenges for the compilation of catches from high seas fisheries. - Identification of existing high seas fisheries in ocean areas not covered by the mandate of any regional fisheries management organization or arrangement. - Conclusions for potential further analysis and possible actions to improve the understanding and the management of high seas fisheries outside the competence of reginal fisheries management organizations or arrangements.
