The persistent challenge of overfished stocks in certain regions of the world and varying capacities for effective management necessitates a wide set of mechanisms and tools for knowledge sharing within global fisheries. While capacity development through in person training remains essential, FAO is piloting the development of the Fisheries Management Portal (FishMaP), a web-based database designed to enhance information exchange related to fisheries management. FishMaP serves as a dynamic, centralized repository, consolidating practical insights from real-world fisheries, legal frameworks, and FAO's published documents especifically related to fisheries management. By offering detailed case studies of management measures, facilitating access to legal and policy documents, and curating relevant publications, the portal is meant to support stakeholders—from local fishers to managers—in the first steps of the design and implementation of context-specific and effective management measures and plans.
