Abstract

This video, produced by ICSF, captures a panel discussion on addressing transboundary fisheries conflicts in the Palk Bay between India and Sri Lanka. Representatives of small-scale fishers, civil society, academia, and the media discuss how eliminating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing—particularly bottom trawling—can improve livelihoods and marine ecosystems in Northern Sri Lanka. The panellists outline pathways for resolving these conflicts, emphasising rights-based management, regional cooperation, and measures to empower local fishing communities in Sri Lanka.
