This is a report of a joint FAO/WHO consultation on the role of government Agencies in assessing HACCP. The need for regular assessment of HACCP system was agreed upon. This could be carried at two-levels, internal assessment carried out by the industry and independent assessments carried out by either regulatory agencies or by third parties. Thus a set of guidelines were developed for the regulatory assessment of HACCP.
