Abstract

Provides a short review of the nature of the fishery subsidies problem based on existing data, including the scale of subsidization, the consequences for the sustainability of global fisheries and the relationship to international trade. Also reviews the current disciplines on fisheries subsidies, focusing on the operation of WTO rules and culminating in an evaluation of the gaps in the current rule system.
