Abstract

Russia has been going through an ‘emerging market’ period for the last ten years, which has dramatically changed the principles and rules by which all branches of Russian industry have functioned. No exception to this process is the fishing industry and the harvesting of marine resources. In the erstwhile Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), fishing beyond the borders of the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) had always played a very significant part in the national fishing industry.
