Abstract

Kamalakar Pattagar wades through the thigh-deep brackish water of his paddy field and collects bunches of just-harvested paddy. He then spreads out the soaked harvest on dry land. “This is kari (black) kagga,” he says pointing to the flat, broad seeds. “Its grains are red.”
