Abstract

It is true that there is a global crisis in the midst of the fisheries sector in the form of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, which brings about negative impacts on economic, social and ecological attributes of fisheries affecting food security. Specifically, IUU fishing has contributed to the reduction food supply, lost livelihoods and state revenues, diminishing fish stocks, and damaged ecosystems, with the most devastating effects concentrated in developing countries due to their greater vulnerability.
