Abstract

The world is in an environmental crisis, and most of the blame is placed on the fast growing population and irresponsible exploitation of natural resources by man. Consequently, forecasts indicate that food supply can no longer serve the population’s food demand, while dismal graphs continue to portray dwindling production from agriculture including fisheries. Specifically for the fisheries sector, figures continue to decrease and seem to reach a plateau, but it is also a general knowledge that the world’s natural fisheries resources still have the potentials to produce more fish for the fast growing population, if only exploitation of the remaining resources is carried out in a more sustainable way while the degraded resources are left untouched and allowed to recover.
