The ASEAN-SEAFDEC Member Countries have recognized the need to implement effective management of fisheries through an ecosystem approach as well as to accelerate the development of fisheries management plans based on an ecosystem approach as basis for fisheries conservation and management, while continuing their efforts towards the development of sustainable fisheries, as stipulated in the Resolution and Plan of Action on Sustainable Fisheries for Food Security for the ASEAN Region Towards 2020 adopted by the ASEAN Member States in June 2011. Towards achieving the objectives of this movement, SEAFDEC dovetails its programs and activities to make sure that the countries would be able to effectively implement activities based on the EAFM concept.
