Abstract

The estimated total marine fish landing during 2003 was 2.58 million tonnes compared to 2.59 million tonnes in 2002. 68 percentage of the total landings was by mechanised sector, 25% by motorised sector and 7% by Arsenal sector during the year 2002 and it was 66%, 27% and 7% respectively during 2003. Trawl net (mechanised) and gillnet(motorised) are the important girls operating throughout the Indian coast. During the year 2002, 35% of the total landings was from north west region, 33% from Southwest region and 9% from North East region.
