The Australian Parliament has passed two Acts over the past year or so, apart from those relating to the MV Tampa incident and the ‘Boat People’,1 both of which have consequences for the Australian shipping scene. This is a Note on those Acts and a comment on concern about the appropriateness of some aspects of the Australian legislation implementing international treaties into domestic legislation.
