Abstract
The Spratly Islands represent one of the most difficult ongoing political disputes in Asia. The difficulties lie not merely in the location of the Islands, which are situated on the strategic hub of the South China Sea, or in its nature in that it is essentially concerning the sovereignty of some small and rather barren islands, but from the multiplicity and relationships of the participants, and from the fact that the participants have fortified their positions literally as well as figuratively.
