Abstract

Monitoring the harvested marine fish resources is one of the major mandate of the Central marine Fisheries Research Institute. The Institute has been monitoring the status of exploited resources since its inception in 1947. For assessment of exploited stocks , the data on catch and fishing effort are the important pre-requisites. To fulfill this requirement the Institute has developed a scientific data collection mechanism based on stratified multistage random sampling design to estimate regionwise and resource wise marine fish landings along with fishing effort.
