Abstract

The 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (LOSC) represented an ambitious attempt to create a comprehensive global oceans regulatory system and dispute resolution framework to prevent interstate conflict. At the heart of LOSC is an attempt to achieve an equitable balance between coastal State rights and foreign State freedoms within defined oceanic zones.
