Most of the floating netcages in the past were situated in coves or bays protected from typhoons and other adverse weather conditions. But the deep waterways or rivers of mangrove areas offer almost similar qualities, and can be used by communities. Among the commercially important marine fishes for culture, the mangrove red snapper, the Asian sea bass, and the grouper are good candidates for mangrove areas because they are euryhaline and command high market prices. AQD has started grouper culture trial in netcages in mangrove areas.
