In 2014 the Coast to Coast Conference of Australia, run by the Australian Coastal Society, celebrated its 20-year anniversary. The Coast to Coast Conference has been held every two years since 1994 in different states around Australia. It attracts managers, practitioners and researchers from councils, universities, consulting companies, regional natural resource management organisations, community organisations and all levels of government. The networks created by the conference are very strong; participants share a common interest in sustaining coastal environmental health and the well-being of coastal Australians through good planning and management. This is the first time the conference has produced a special issue for an academic journal.
