The demand for, and value of, live reef fish for food, particularly the groupers (Family Serranidae), have grown markedly in the last two decades in Southeast (SE) Asia. Most of this demand is met by capture fisheries of market-sized fish. However, there are three issues related to grouper fisheries that need to be addressed if the trade in this family of reef fishes is to remain viable in the future.
