Abstract

In May 1989 the artisanal fishermen of Lamon Bay got their municipal government to close their bay to industrial fishing. This bay, 40 kms long and 15 kms wide, harbours more than 5,000 coastal fishermen. Today, they point with pride to the results of the collective management of their resource: sizes have increased and the total catch is much larger.
