Abstract

How East African Coastal women exploit marine products, the importance of these products in their lives and the lives of their families, and the institutions they have evolved to protect their interests are the subject of this article. The focus is both economic and environmental. In particular, an argument is made here for a recognition of the range of forms of tenure which underpin the economic base of women.
