Abstract

Around 3000 fisherfolk (both men and women) in the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay region, especially in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu, depend on collection of seaweed (Gelidiella acerosa, Sargassum spp. and Turbinaria spp.) for their livelihoods.
