Abstract
The marine fishery of the Kerala state in India is globally wellknown for its high productivity, species diversity, skilled fishers and also, importantly, for sustaining a vibrant small-scale fishery on its once-sandy beaches. Kerala’s fishery has been a trendsetter. It hosted the world’s first development project in 1952 when Norway, India and the United Nations (UN) came together to create the much written-about Indo–Norwegian Project for Fisheries Development.
