Biodiversity for food and agriculture (BFA), along with the ecosystem services it supports, is essential to sustainable agrifood systems. It enables production systems and livelihoods to cope with, and evolve under, changing social, economic and environmental conditions, and is a key resource in efforts to ensure food security and nutrition while limiting or reducing negative impacts on the environment and also contributing to environment protection and restoration and sustainable use.
