Abstract

The Twelfth Session of the Sub-Committee on Aquaculture of the FAO Committee on Fisheries was held in Hermosillo, Mexico, 16–19 May 2023. The Sub-Committee: commended FAO’s work and highlighted the importance of aquaculture to food security and nutrition, livelihoods, economic development, and public health, as well as to the Sustainable Development Goals; approved the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture; welcomed FAO’s Blue Transformation Roadmap; called for more prominent actions toward the improvement of gender equality and women’s empowerment in aquaculture; noted the great potential of seaweed aquaculture for which technical assistance and exchange by Members is still required; and welcomed the kind offer of Türkiye to host its Thirteenth Session.
