Abstract

“Nothing about us without us” is a set of guidelines for organizations that want to work with small-scale fisheries (SSF) to preserve the oceans. The guidelines are based on: 1.Guidelines to secure sustainable small-scale fisheries, 2. Free, Prior and Informed Consent, 3. Codes of conduct for conservation. Small-scale fisheries are often operated by individuals or small communities that use traditional or low-tech fishing methods. The fishers proposed to write a code of conduct which has finally resulted in these “Rules of conduct for working with small-scale fishers and fishworkers to save our ocean”. These guidelines are addressed mainly at those organisations that wish to work with SSF in the context of marine and coastal conservation.
