This document takes stock of the progress made in assessing, projecting, and responding to the impacts of climate change on fisheries and aquaculture, to inform evidence-based decision making on adaptation and mitigation. Moreover, the document provides an update on the development of a set of FAO actions on climate resilient fisheries and aquaculture in support of the implementation of the FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031. It also summarizes the progressive discussions on aquatic foods under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) including the 2023 annual Ocean Dialogue’s outcomes on “Fisheries and food security”. This document is complemented by the following documents that contain relevant information: Information documents: • Blue Transformation actions on climate resilient aquatic food systems – Supporting the FAO Strategy on Climate Change (COFI/2024/INF/17) • Bioeconomy for Sustainable Food and Agriculture (COFI/2024/INF/18) Session background documents: • FAO Technical Paper No. 707 – Climate change risks to marine ecosystems and fisheries (COFI/2024/SBD.4) • FAO Technical Paper No. 704 – Fisheries responses to invasive species in a changing climate: lessons learned from case studies (COFI/2024/SBD.5) • A guide to UNFCCC for the aquatic food sector (COFI/2024/SBD.6)
