Abstract

This document provides an overview of the work carried out by FAO on climate change in relation to fisheries and aquaculture, as well as other environment-related matters, in particular abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear, marine litter, anthropogenic underwater noise and harmful algal blooms. The document reports on normative work in response to the Committee’s recommendation to address these issues through direct support to Member Nations with field projects, and contribution to relevant global processes. The document is complemented by the following documents: Working paper on developments in global and regional processes (COFI/2020/8); Information paper Responsible Fishing Operations Workplan (COFI/2020/Inf. 15.4); Session Background Document on the Report of the 2019 FAO/GGGI Regional Workshops on Best Practices to Prevent and Reduce Abandoned, Lost and otherwise Discarded Fishing Gear (COFI/2020/ SBD.6); Second Interim Report of GESAMP Working Group 43 (COFI/2020/ SBD.8); IMO-FAO GloLitter Partnerships Programme (COFI/2020/SBD.13).
