This study explores cyclone preparedness among fishing households in Shah Porir Dwip, Bangladesh, a region highly vulnerable to cyclones due to location. Data were collected from 407 fisherman households using a cross-sectional survey design, focusing on six dimensions of preparedness: knowledge, subsistence, loss minimization, social integration, technological integration, and adaptive capacity. The results reveal significant disparities in preparedness. While the community demonstrates high cyclone knowledge (mean score: 0.80), critical gaps exist in subsistence (0.29) and loss minimization (0.40). Social integration scores are relatively high (0.69), indicating strong community cohesion, while technological integration and adaptive capacity show moderate levels of preparedness (0.56 and 0.61, respectively). Multiple regression analysis identifies socio-demographic factors influencing these dimensions, with lower-income households showing better knowledge but poorer subsistence and loss minimization. The study highlights the urgent need for targeted interventions, such as improved early warning systems, resource allocation, and community-based programs, to enhance cyclone resilience in this vulnerable coastal community.
