This book describes and analyses a credit project for fisherfolk of Orissa, India, carried out from March 1982 to March 1986. Under the project, credit worth Rs.6.5 million - in the form of boats, nets and bicycles for marketing - were distributed by nine nationalised banks to 2,500 fisherfolk households in Orissa's four coastal districts. The document outlines the rationale and the philosophy of the credit project and discusses the preparatory work, the economics, the implementation and the results.
