This is a summary report that outlines the information contained in the “Mapping distant-water Fisheries Access Arrangements” report (2022) and the “Institutional and Economic Perspectives on Distant-Water Fisheries Arrangements” report (2024). The first report presents the identification of the major arrangements for accessing marine capture fisheries in foreign jurisdictional waters, with a particular emphasis on developing countries. The second report is an expansion of the first, which conducts a more targeted examination of the economic dynamics, policy drivers, and institutional framework of fishing access arrangements through the analysis of six comprehensive case studies.
