Abstract

This Vessel questionnaire is part of the “Survey on decent work in marine fishing questionnaires” designed to collect reliable, statistically sound, and replicable data on various aspects of decent work in the marine fishing sector. The questionnaires address the themes of decent work outlined in the Work in Fishing Convention, 2007 (No. 188). They are administered to fishers who work or have worked in marine fishing (ISIC Rev. 4 code 0311), which includes commercial fishing in ocean and coastal waters, as well as onboard processing or preserving fish. The information collected can be used by employers, workers, governments, and other stakeholders to develop evidence-based policies, establish priorities, and monitor progress over time. The “Survey on decent work in marine fishing questionnaires” includes two versions designed for different sampling methods: 1. Living area questionnaire – for interviewing individuals identified through their place of residence. 2. Vessel questionnaire – for interviewing fishers currently working on vessels, identified through crew lists. The Vessel questionnaire is intended for vessel-based surveys and should be administered to individuals who are currently working in marine fishing. Due to the sensitive nature of some questions, proxy responses are not permitted – only the workers themselves can be interviewed. Trained enumerators should conduct interviews using either paper-and-pencil (PAPI) or computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) methods.
