Abstract

This document considers the growing impact and contribution of regional fisheries management approaches to achieving effective and sustainable fisheries, particularly for shared and migratory stocks. It presents examples of cooperative management, science and advisory frameworks implemented by Regional Fishery Bodies (RFBs), that have brought about significant improvements in conservation and sustainable management, and discusses gaps in management, challenges and opportunities to strengthen regional management.
